A good read for museum people of all backgrounds

This book came to me at just the right time. The need to address the cost of maintaining a collection against its usefulness to the institution and society in general has been much in my thoughts and this book helped me to see that I am not the only one thinking about it. Ms. Keene covers all of the bases: What good is this stuff? Who does it belong to? How well should it be cared for? Who cares about it and why? Who should pay for its care? Who gets to use it? Should we add to it, keep it in stasis, or dispose of it?

Backed by real-world examples from collections in multiple disciplines and locations, Ms. Keene attempts to defend the need for collections as providing cultural keys and mirrors. She reflects upon the usefulness of objects in education and research, but more than that the ways in which objects can provide a creative spark, something I would like to see more museums advertise and own. She also touches upon the responsibility of institutions to care for their collections as well as to make them accessible and relevant in order that others will see them as important and worth funding. She takes a viewpoint that might be seen as heretical by museums when she separates collections from their institutions in asserting that "collections are all too easily confused with museums, but they are far more durable and valuable than the museum that happens to house them, perhaps temporarily". But it wouldn't be a good read if there wasn't a bit of controversy!

I recommend this book to anyone who manages or curates a collection, but even more to anyone who exhibits, educates or administers a museum either as staff or trustee. Those who work with the collection are usually already aware of its value and usefulness, but those who manage the institution may be far removed from the potential it holds and this book might inspire them to visit the shelves and cabinets that hold the treasures of their institution and lead them to seek ways to bring it safely into the light.

This is an excellent book! The principles that Tim outlines have been extremely helpful in determining a long-term prayer strategy for my area of the city. These principles in combination with the strategy outlined in Operation Rolling Thunder (now known as 1Church1Day) will help any leader or prayer warrior build a wall of prayer in their city. I am a person of order and I appreciate how God has used Tim Taylor's military experience to reveal a process that helps us stand in the gap on behalf of the Kingdom of God.

This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to see results from their prayers. I used the section of this book about the principles of war to teach a class on Spiritual Warfare for Wagner Leadership Institute. Very easy to read with scriptual referances to all of the principles that are presented.

Title fits book perfectly

I listened to the audiobook. This was my first book by this author. I enjoyed listening to the story of sisters Yvette, Crystal, and Dana dealing with relationships and finding the love that they deserved. When one man doesn't treat you right, just know that Another Man Will. The title was oh so fitting. Good job.

What One man Won't Do...

Another Man Will by Daamiah S. Poole is the story about the Turner Sisters: Dana, Yvette and Crystal. Crystal is the youngest of the trio. She has three kids by three different men. Crystal is only looking for love in all the wrong places and happens to choose the wrong man each and every time. Crystal loves each one of her children and is a good mother, although she does not get much help from the kids' fathers; she finds herself working all the overtime she can to make ends meet. Having recently given birth to her third child, the father questions if the child is his, mainly because his sister is putting doubts in his head. Crystal is livid but she knows without a shadow of a doubt the child is in fact his. When the results prove this, will he step up to the plate? In the meantime, Crystal goes out and a man that she went to school with back in the day confesses that he used to have a crush on her. Things begin moving entirely too fast and leave Crystal wondering if she is making yet another bad decision.

Dana is in love with a man that always seems to put work first. Every time she has an event to attend or just wants to spend quality time, he bails on her at the last minute. Dana wonders if settling for less than what she deserves is better than not having a man at all. That is until she meets a man that she would have never thought she would have been attracted to or would have ever dated. But, with the love and affection he showers on her, she knows she will have to make a decision with both men vying for her love.

Yvette found out that her husband was cheating on her and got another woman pregnant. With a little time she was able to forgive him, or so he thought. Yvette felt like if he could cheat then so could she. So she began having an affair with a younger co-worker. When her husband found out, he was ready to file for divorce. Yvette is forced to move her and her children out of the big house because she is unable to pay the bills. Instead of getting a lawyer Yvette decides to handle the divorce on her own. As you can already guess, things are about to get very ugly.

Another Man Will by Daamiah S. Poole was an OK story at best. It was a fast-paced read and kept me interested, but was a tad bit predictable. Each woman's story is one that we all can relate to. Either we know someone that is one of these characters or we are that character. The underlying message in this story is what one man won't do...remember another man will.
